Melania Trump has gone against the grain of first lady tradition by favoring European designer clothes over American offerings, and far and away one of her favourites is the Italian house Dolce & Gabbana. On the Trump administration's first jaunt overseas she's worn the label multiple times—Dolce & Gabbana is responsible for everything form the all-black number she wore to meet the Pope to the $51,500 jacket she wore today to the G7 summit in Catania.
Of course, Trump's relationship with American fashion is complicated. Numerous designers, from Tom Ford to Marc Jacobs, say they would not accommodate the first lady if she asked for clothes (this of course, does not prevent her from buying them on her own), and most of the industry, or at least the New York-based faction of it, appears to be decidedly not hot on the Trump administration.
One half of Dolce & Gabbana's design team, Stefano Gabbana, has no such qualms. He may be one of Melania Trump's biggest fans and frequently freaks out in joy on Instagram whenever she wears a look from his label.
When he posted images of Trump's black D&G Vatican visit ensemble, he both says "THANK YOU" to the "haters," and pairs the comment "Remember #boycottdolcegabbana please" with a few "laughing so hard I'm crying" emojis.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Gabbana bucked the fashion establishment — as he often does — by proudly opening up about his support for Mrs. Trump’s luxury style.
“I know America is a big country and the division is big,” Gabbana said. “I don’t post for a scandal. I know I make a controversy, but I’m not afraid.”

Miley Cryus against Melania Trump
Miley Cyrus has made a strong statement against Italian fashion house, Dolce & Gabbana, and their politics. In an Instagram post on Saturday, the 24-year-old posted a photo of her younger brother, Braison, walking in his first ever runway show — for Dolce & Gabbana’s spring 2018 menswear collection that afternoon. After a long post of praise for the male member of the Cyrus clan, she adds a line about the brand’s much-buzzed about politics, noting that she is not one to support, no matter how happy she is that they chose Braison to represent them on the runway.
Alongside an image of Braison, Miley begins by writing, “Congrats @braisoncyrus on walking in your 1st runway show…it’s never been my little brothers dream to be a model as HE is one of the most talented musicians my ears have ever been given the gift of hearing…BUT it is a Cyrus family trait to try everything once (within reason HA) and to embrace opportunities that encourage you to step out of your comfort zone!"
Though Miley was sure to praise her brother’s newest endeavour, she was careful not to align herself too closely with Dolce & Gabbana, as they have been widely criticised as of late for supporting the First Lady Melania Trump and dressing her on multiple occasions. After writing the sweetest words about Braison, Miley added, “PS D&G, I STRONGLY disagree with your politics…but I do support your company’s effort to celebrate young artists & give them the platform to shine their light for all to see!”
The designer posted a photo on his own account, writing a statement in Italian that the publication translated as, “We are Italian and we don’t care about politics and mostly neither about the American one! […] We make dresses and if you think about doing politics with a post it’s simply ignorant. We don’t need your posts or comments so next time please ignore us!!#boycottdolcegabbana.”
